Having anxiety dreams? No problem! They’re just wake-up calls!

I was talking about my own recurring anxiety dream with my friends today and it seems everyone has one. Almost everyone at some point is affected by anxiety. Whether you show outwardly that the anxiety affects you or whether you tend to keep it bottled up within you, your anxiety will more than likely play itself out in your dreams somehow. For some, unpleasant dreams or nightmares recur repeatedly; for others, the content may change while the theme remains the same, such as scenes of falling, or of being surrounded by animals like buffaloes and snakes, late or unprepared for a presentation or an exam, stuck in slow motion, unable to move or scream or even breathe, or naked in public, to name a few common themes. And for those who see recurring dreams this may even be what you're wishing you could get rid of. But dream analysts say that most nightmares and almost all recurring dreams are trying to provide an extremely valuable service to the dreamer. If we block them, we are likely missing their immediate benefit; if we remember but ignore them, we may well be missing the vital message that they are trying to bring us about our life. This type of experience, when unpleasant, is said to be usually associated with lack of progress by the dreamer to recognize and solve related conflicts in life.

When you dream, your subconscious takes over your thoughts. This means that any reserves that you might normally have during waking hours are absolved. Anything can happen in dreams and when faced with anxiety dreams, many people find them to be upsetting. Most people wake up with the fear that this dreaded dream will come true. In actuality, this dream is more than likely the mind’s way of trying to work out a stressful, anxiety-ridden situation. Even though you are still asleep, your mind is always thinking, trying to understand situations.

Our dreams are usually symbolic rather than literal. That is, the things in your dream may represent something completely different from what they appear to be. Just like with the dream about the death of a child, the death is actually representative of unknown change rather than actual death. Anxiety dreams often involve you trying to run away from something. This is a common, but still terrifying experience. The thing hunting you may take the form of a man, an animal, or even a monster. Children have even reported anxiety dreams in which they are being chased by an inanimate object such as a classroom or toilet. Adults may find themselves crawling through small spaces or narrow tunnels to escape what is chasing them.

While anxiety dreams are often alarming and troublesome, you need to realize that they are an indication of someone or a situation that is consciously distressing you. While you may be able to ignore it during waking hours, it will creep into your dreams. Some anxiety dreams may be so disturbing that they cause you sleepless nights. To overcome this, take a good look at the situations and relationships in your life to see what might be linked to the dream. If you can figure out what is causing the dream and resolve that situation, you may find the dreams will lessen if not cease completely.

Renown psychologist Carl Jung observed that portions of our whole personality which we knowingly or unknowingly judge become disowned, and are frequently projected outward in dreams, taking the form of aggressors, devils, monsters, intimidating animals or natural events (e.g. tidal waves), and so on. Jung referred to these symbolic figures as "the shadow". Whether we become aware of such elements of our shadow through nightmares or daymares, re-accepting these judged and disowned portions of ourselves is the message and the awaiting gift.

So, we truly are lucky to have such nightmares, since they provide a natural ‘pressure-release’ therapy for the psyche. The goal is still to put an end to nightmares and recurring dreams, but by evolving them into more beneficial scenarios, and not by blocking, ignoring or denying them.

Adieu to Mr. Sood and Greetings to Mr. Prasad

Source: The Himalayan Times August 26, 2011

More than just diplomats, ambassadors in Nepal are a bunch of celebrities creating headlines wherever they go and whatever they do. They are the centre of attraction in social functions and even figure conspicuously in page three sections of newspaper supplements. They are highly influential and can meet ministers including the Prime Minister without going through a single diplomatic procedure governed by law or international custom. It is a matter of national shame but we cannot overlook the role they play in our policy formation starting from the formation of cabinet itself.

Jayant Prasad, the former special secretary at India's Ministry of External Affairs, has finally replaced Rakesh Sood as the Indian ambassador to Nepal. The selection of Prasad, who earlier served as Indian ambassador to Afghanistan and Algeria came in the wake of rising unpopularity of Sood in the wake of what Indian establishment thinks as rising anti-Indian sentiment. Jayant Prasad was born on June 5, 1952. Prasad completed his higher education in Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University. After lecturing on modern Indian history for two years at St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, he entered the Indian Foreign Service in 1976. Interestingly both Prasad and Sood are Indian Foreign Service's 1976 batch. Prasad also has experience working with Indian missions in Paris, Geneva and Brussels.

Nepal has always been high on India’s priority list. Why wouldn’t it be; it has till date maintained the history of having corrupt politicians irrespective of their political ideologies and background, who can be easily bribed and puppetized. During his last Nepal visit, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna clearly outlined that security is India’s main concern in Nepal. It is worried about the 1800 km long open border with Nepal which it says is being used to smuggle fake currency, arms and even terrorists. It’s high time that Nepal took action regarding similar incidents the other way round. We are well aware of human trafficking from Nepal to India. The insurgent groups operating across the entire nation are said to have their shelters, supports and even guiding forces based in India. Bhutanese refugee problem is another issue to be resolved. The immoral acts of constructing and operating of physical infrastructures like dams and bridges just for the sake of unilateral benefit should be stopped by India.

Often the art of diplomacy is innate in one’s personality. Unlike his predecessor Prasad is perceived as someone who is mild mannered and gives everyone a patient hearing—traits that would be handy in decreasing the growing anti-Indian sentiments in Nepal.

Only time will tell whether the Himalayan nation is affected or benefited by his roles. Regarding the bilateral ties and agreements, it's all very well on paper, but it remains to be seen whether it can be done in practice. As for me I do not think that the change of ambassadors is going to create much difference as in diplomacy it is a well evident fact that all roads lead to Rome !

Premonition and the law of Karma in the light of Hinduism

Today I happened to watch the movie ' Final Destination 5 ' where the " survivors of a suspension-bridge collapse learn there's no way you can cheat Death." After watching the movie I wanted to examine the concepts of premonition and Karma in the light of Hinduism.

In the movie the central character Sam Lawton gets a vision (premonition) of a suspension bridge collapse killing several people including his team who were on their way towards a retreat .The vision saves his as well as many of his friends' lives. But the movie showcases this incident as "cheating death" which is against the law of karma. Eventually the survivors get killed one-after-another in the same sequence Sam had foreseen in his 'vision'.

Premonition is a type of prophecy consisting of an impressionable warning of a future event. The phenomenon is characterized by such sensations as anxiety, uneasiness, a vague feeling of disquiet suggesting impending disaster to actual visual or auditory hallucinations.  The sensation tends to occur prior to disasters, accidents, deaths and other traumatic and emotionally charged events. Now let me throw some light on premonition from Hinduism. I may sound a little chauvinistic here, but I strongly believe that Hinduism is the only existing religion in this world that can shed some light on " impressions about the future ". According to Hinduism the transcendent God is beyond time, form, and space. So if you tap into that aspect for a moment, sure, the future may pop out. But this is usually in the realm of the greatest seers to walk this planet. Hinduism talks about several planes of consciousness. It is this very study of consciousness that makes Hindu knowledge system unique. The study of consciousness is an advanced stage in man's pursuit of Truth. The various planes of consciousness are called lokas or worlds. There are fourteen worlds, seven adho lokas (lower) and seven urdhva lokas (higher). Earth (physical consciousness) is at the bottom of urdhva lokas. The worlds below it are subconscious. Some people are very sensitive to the higher planes of consciousness; thus they get premonitions. According to Hinduism premonition is possible in two ways:

  1. Through subtle bodies: The premonition (information) has been put into their sub-conscious mind by subtle bodies. In most cases, the subtle bodies or entities are ghosts from the Nether Region or Hell. These subtle bodies in some cases have the ability to see across time. If they themselves do not have this ability, they get the information from higher-level ghosts like sorcerers with this ability.
  2. Accessing the Universal Mind and Intellect: There are seven layers to the Universal Mind and Intellect. Depending on one's grade of sixth sense, a person may be able to tap into a lower or higher layer of the Universal Mind and Intellect.
In almost all cases of premonition (a forewarning of the future), clairvoyance (information received from a distant place) and precognition (information received from a distant time), the information is received from subtle bodies and not through one’s ability to access the Universal Mind and Intellect.

Now let me move on towards the law of karma. Karma literally means "action". Thus the law of karma is a simple and straightforward concept according to which beings, not just humans are rewarded or punished according to their own actions and intentions.The Bhagavad-gita categorises karma, listing three kinds of human actions: (1) Karma: those which elevate, (2) Vikarma: those which degrade and (3) Akarma: those which create neither good nor bad reactions and thus lead to liberation. It is the universal law of karma (action and reaction) that determines each soul's unique destiny. It is also believed that just as each person incurs karma through his or her actions actions performed as a group also give rise to collective karma that would impact their collective future. If something happens unexpectedly against our intentions and despite our good efforts Hindus believe it to be the consequences of bad karmas performed in previous lives. There is nothing much we can do about it except seeking divine intervention and exhaust it through our current good karmas.

Before opening the Google AdSense account...

Most of us are not new to this feature provided by Google called  'AdSense'. But before beginning to sign up hurriedly for an account (You will be in a hurry is too much alluring for the beginners ! ) you need to first analyse the quality of your blog yourself ! Just having is not enough. Blogs without enough content cannot be well evaluated ( How can they be? : p) . As a result the blogger is denied from having registered an AdSense account. Another part where problem arises more common is the information -filling part . To be more precise the section I'm talking about is the address -section which must be carefully filled providing every possible detail including the house number. Without abiding by the necessary terms and conditions if anyone tries requesting for the account again and again Google may permanently disable that user-account from signing up for AdSense ! So be careful guys!!
